Colin the Caterpillar is a staple in British culture, because given one point or another in our lives us Brits have probably eaten one, gifted one to a friend or been at a party where he was the main event.
So I’ll be honest here, I don’t quite know how to feel about finding out that Aldi has brought out a VERY similar version of him and given him a whole new name. Introducing: Cuthbert the Caterpillar.
Spotted by the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook, Cuthbert is on the shelves in just a select few Aldi stores at the moment as a trial, but if he’s as loved as the OG caterpillar then they may consider shipping him out nationwide.
Aldi has priced Cuthbert at £4.99 which is a saving of £2.01 compared to the £7 you’ll pay for a Colin from M&S. Damn.
Now I can here you – surely M&S won’t be having any of this – especially considering that Cuthbert is BASICALLY Colin’s identical twin brother. Well, someone actually tweeted the supermarket giant on social media to call out Aldi for their ‘imitation’ and Marks and Spencer responded with a very appropriate GIF.
@marksandspencer you know I am an advocate for tweeting you to grass up Colin wannabes but.. check this one out!!! Cuthbert from Aldi, this is almost infringement isnt it?— Marc Jowett (@marc_jowett) October 2, 2019

To which M&S posted a GIF of Spider-Man, saying: “Hmm @aldiUK, my spider senses are tingling… we definitely spot an imposter.”
