It’s been a funny old few weeks for Game of Thrones – this season has probably been one of the most anticipated series’ in television history.
With that comes a heap of pressure to deliver something truly spectacular, or more accurately, pressure to deliver something that’s probably not even possible.
We’ll throw out a spoiler warning now, just in case you aren’t up to date with the latest episode.
Unfortunately, episode five, ‘The Bells’ quickly became the worst-rated episode in the show’s history, which sums up the unusual feeling of disappointment that has polluted this series.
Now the inevitable has happened – someone has launched a petition asking HBO to remake the entire final season.
“David Benioff and DB Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (ie the books) to fall back on,” it says.
“This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”
“Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”
At the time of writing the petition has just over 13,000 signatures – and looks likely to hit its 15,000 signature target.
Despite the backlash – the last episode 5 actually went on to be the most-watched episode in the show’s history, so it can’t be all that bad.
Meanwhile Conleth Hill, who played Varys on the show, said he took his death personally.
He admitted: ”I took it very personally. I took it as a person, not as an actor or an artist.
”I understood the reactions of previous actors who had been in same position a lot more than I did at the time.
”You can’t help feeling that you failed in some way, that you haven’t lived up to some expectation that you didn’t know about.
”The only thing that consoles you is people who worked a lot harder than you are in the same boat. So that helps.
”I don’t think anybody who hasn’t been through it can identify with it. They think, ‘What’s all the fuss about? You’re all finishing anyway.’ But you take it personally, you can’t help it.”
