To say a lot happened throughout the three hours of Endgame would be a wild understatement.
Despite that it did a pretty spectacular job of tying up most loose ends and providing a highly satisfying end to this phase of the MCU.
However there was one piece of the story that wasn’t really explored, leaving fans to debate since the moment the film ended.
We talk of course about what happened to Loki – we see his character manage to escape with the space stone after Tony Stark, Scott Lang, Steve Rogers and Bruce Banner travel back to 2012 and the Battle of New York.
After the God of Mischief vanishes we don’t see him for the remainder of the film, leaving fans to wonder where he actually got off to.
Now the Russo Brothers have finally shed some light on what happened to Loki, admitting that he caused a huge headache when it came to Captain America returning the Infinity Stones.
“The intent was that he was going to correct the past timelines at the point that the stones left,” Joe Russo told Business Insider.
“Loki, when he teleports away with the Time Stone, would create his own timeline. It gets very complicated, but it would be impossible for [Cap] to rectify the timeline unless he found Loki.
“The minute that Loki does something as dramatic as take the Space Stone, he creates a branched reality.”
Anthony Russo added: “We’re dealing with this idea of multiverses and branched realities, so there are many realities.”
This only adds layers to the whole issue of Steve Roger’s confusing time jump that has been the other big talking point from the movie.
Joe explained: “So he would have to come back to this timeline in order to hand off the shield.”
“There’s a question of, how did this separate timeline Cap come to reappear in this timeline and why?” Anthony added – before admitting this was a story for another day.
