Firefighters are currently tackling a blaze at the historic Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris.

The cause of the blaze is unclear, though officials reportedly say it could be linked to ongoing renovation work.

Since the fire started the flames have caused the building’s famous spire to collapse

Last year, the Catholic Church in France launched an urgent appeal for funds to save the cathedral, which was starting to crumble.

The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, described the scene as a “terrible fire” and urged people to respect the boundaries set up by fire crews in order to ensure that they remain safe.
