Students often get a bad rep in the press, sometimes it’s admittedly justified, most of the time it’s a lot of rubbish.
However Bristol university students have earned praise for an amazing gesture, when they gifted an unsuspecting cleaner £1,500 to send him on holiday.
The money was crowdfunded to send Herman Gordon and his wife away to Jamaica so they could visit family.
On the JustGiving page, where more than 230 people donated, Gordon was described as “the epitome of happiness”.
A video showing the cleaner being gifted the money along with a note which thanked him for his “positive energy” has become hugely popular online.

Herman has worked at the university for the last 12 years and has become popular for his attitude towards students.
Speaking to Newsbeat he said it was important to keep away “negative vibes”.
“I know that these students are studying. You don’t want any negative vibes around them.
They speak good things to me, I speak good things to them, and I bless them all.”
According to an admin from the Bristruths Facebook page (an anonymous “truth” page for Bristol University), the idea for Herman’s trip came from a Facebook post.
Within five days the students had nearly reached the target.
Herman said he had never mentioned anything about visiting home, so he was overwhelmed with emotion when he received the money.
“I don’t know if you know that song – ‘Many a tear has to fall/But it’s all in the game’,”
“That’s what happened. A lot of tears.”
Good work guys, excellent work.
