Brooklyn Nine-Nine Dog Who Plays Cheddar Has Died

He’s chasing rabbits in heaven now

A moment of silence please — the dog who plays Cheddar on Brooklyn Nine-Nine has tragically passed away. Known as Captain Raymond Hoult’s four-legged friend, Cheddar is as much a part of the cast as Hitchcock and Scully.

The corgi (real name Stewart) was put to sleep earlier this week. His owners posted a heartfelt Instagram post sharing the news. Although it’s sad, Stewart got to spend his last hours doing what he loved best.

Stewart’s owners told his followers that he enjoyed a stroll on the beach, followed by a picnic of In & Out burgers in the sunshine. Stewart is survived by his sister Stella.

The caption read: “We went to the beach (his favorite place) where he frolicked in the surf and then enjoyed a picnic lunch of In & Out burgers. We relaxed in the sun and just enjoyed each other’s company.

“Our veterinarian met us there later and Stewart went to sleep peacefully in my arms while listening to the sounds of the ocean. He was a one in a million kind of dog, he was my supaah staah.”

Let’s remember how Cheddar has come to the Nine-Nine’s aid on numerous occasions. As well as being “no common b***h,” helped with the Halloween belt heist, and carried the rings at Jake and Amy’s wedding.

Although Stewart isn’t the only dog to play Cheddar *gasp*, he’s the pooch that played him for the longest. It’s unclear what happens to Cheddar now, but I’m guessing they won’t be writing Hoult’s furry friend out of the series.

In lighter news, Brooklyn Nine-Nine favourite Terry Crews is championing himself to play King Triton in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

The Little Mermaid recently caused a stir with the casting of Halle Bailey as Ariel and the creation of #NotMyAriel on social media. Given Bailey’s African American heritage, some called out the studio for moving away from the Caucasian and red-haired Ariel from the 1989 cartoon. However, at least using a black actor opens the door to a whole host of new casting when it comes to King Triton.

Posting on Instagram, Crews shared fan art of him wearing a tail, carrying a trident, and bobbing outside Triton’s castle. The 50-year-old wrote, “Ariel’s Dad!! HEAR ME OUT!! 🧜‍♀️ #ArielsGotTerry#AmericasGotTerry””

Crews could have a busy schedule though. Only last week, the Ebony Falcon confirmed White Chicks 2 is officially in development. Plus he’s also got Season 7 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine to think about. After jumping to NBC, the hit comedy has been commissioned for another run of 13 episodes.
