Fans of DC have been given their first look at Robert Pattinson as Batman after director Matt Reeves shared a teaser video online.
The short video, bathed in a deep-red glow, features a very different looking Batman.
The Lighthouse star’s new Batsuit features a leather cowl alongside an armoured mid-section, with detailing on the bat logo that looks to be made from guns.
This has sparked waves of speculation on Reddit, Twitter, and other fan forums that these guns may have a deeper symbolism than we first see.

The bat symbol in his chest is believed to be made from the pieces of the gun that killed Thomas and Martha Wayne.
I don’t know about you, but I’m digging the whole gothic noir look. 🦇 #TheBatman pic.twitter.com/qoTSjJnXTQ
That bat symbol is the gun that Joe Chill used to kill the Waynes. Bruce taking the weapon that murder his parents and turning it into the incorruptible symbol that represents the batman, Boy..Matt Reeves has reached a level of thinking &beautiful way use of comic.#TheBatman2021 pic.twitter.com/8tCEIHJ7gT— NKumar (@NKumar333) February 14, 2020

That’s right folks – fans believe that Batman’s new logo is literally built from the gun used to murder his parents – and that is hard as hell. Do not mess with a man who re-appropriates firearms like this.
Others have praised the music in the new snippet, and hope to see a similarly noir-ish vibe to the film like the music that features in the trailer.
This hope may not be too unrealistic, as director Reeves has previously said he wants Pattinsons’ Batman to focus on the detective side of the character.
“It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale,” Reeves told the Hollywood Reporter.
He expanded on how the film would differ from previous Batman outings:
“It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films.”
Certainly fits with the look and feel we’ve gotten from this mini-tease! We can’t wait for a full trailer for the film.
The Batman releases 25th June 2021.
