Greta Thunberg Is Getting Her Very Own TV Show

Thunbergs are go!

Eco-warrior and Trump botherer Greta Thunberg is getting her time to shine as the 17-year-old is officially getting her own TV show. The climate change activist has proved to be a divisive figure and is sure to continue this with the upcoming series.

Thunberg gained worldwide attention by coining the “Friday’s for Future” climate change movement, which will be the focus of the BBC’s new venture. It will be headed up by the network’s award-winning Science Unit and follow Thunberg’s exploits around the world.

Posting on Twitter, the BBC shared the news of the series. The description explained how Thunberg’s show “takes her on the front line of climate change in some of the most extraordinary places on earth, as she explores what actions could be taken to limit climate change and the damage it causes”.

Not everyone was impressed though. One disgruntled viewer wrote, “What are her qualifications to be interviewed for anything at all? Zero. This is yet more @BBC propaganda and misinformation being presented as if it was factual. Another reason (if one was needed) to @AxeTheTVtax”.

Hyping Thunberg’s show, the BBC said, “Scientists across the world agree that global temperature rise needs to be limited to 1.5 degrees, to give us the best possible chance of avoiding irreversible chain reactions.

“Throughout the series a chorus of these experts will lay out the science that lies beneath this unambiguous statement.

“As she travels Greta meets not only leading scientists but political leaders and business heavyweights, exploring the scientific evidence with them and challenging them to change.”

There’s currently new news on when the series will be released, but it’s huge news off the back of her being nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize by Swedish politicians Jens Holm and Hakan Svenneling.

Rob Liddell, BBC Studios Executive Producer added: “Climate change is probably the most important issue of our lives so it feels timely to make an authoritative series that explores the facts and science behind this complex subject.

“To be able to do this with Greta is an extraordinary privilege, getting an inside view on what it’s like being a global icon and one of the most famous faces on the planet.”

Thunberg’s show will “chart her journey into adulthood” and also follow her through her “quiet moments” as she writes her “impactful” speeches. Whatever anyone’s views, this one is sure to be big for the BBC.
