It seems like pretty much everyone is a vegetarian or a vegan these days. If they’re not, then they’re telling you how much they love bacon and ‘couldn’t live without cheese’. Each to their own, I guess. However, there’s one particular fast food restaurant that people can’t get enough of, but is seriously lacking in the veggie options front. Yup – KFC.
We all love a bit of fried chicken, don’t we? Even the veggies and vegans among us have to admit that it’s pretty delicious. So you may be happy to know that KFC is looking to introduce a new vegetarian option of the tasty treat. No more chips and beans while everyone else tucks into their bargain buckets.
They’re planning to start trialling the chicken as early as this year, with a full launched planned in 2019.
KFC said the option will bring “great taste of KFC to new and existing customers who are changing their dining habits”.
They told the Sun: “Development of the recipe is still in its very early stages, and so the options we’re exploring in our kitchen are still top secret.”
A statement added: “Once we’ve perfected the recipe we aim to test with customers this year, and if all goes well, we hope to launch a new vegetarian option in 2019.”
While we’re waiting for that, did you know that there’s actually some stores that have an all-you-can-eat option? Sadly, no veggie option though.
Yep, it sounds like the stuff dreams are made of. Imagine rocking up to KFC in your pyjamas with everyone from your halls and not leaving all day. You could probably get half your dissertation done in one sitting when you’re constantly refuelling with KFC goodness. It sounds preferable to having to sneak a Big Mac into your uni’s library, anyway.
According to Foodbeast, this phenomenon is only available at certain restaurants. And sadly, you can’t even look them up. You just have to stumble upon them like some kind of pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
However, if you happen to be in America any time soon, you’ll be happy to know that there is one particular restaurant that definitely has it. It’s a drive-thru the city of Banning, a town residing in the Southern California county of Riverside.
You can get original recipe chicken, fries and drinks to your heart’s galore.
According to a picture obtained by Foodbeast, it costs an adult $8.99 (including drinks), $7.99 (without a drink), $5.99 if you’re elderly, $5.99 for a child aged between 6-12 and $2.99 for a child aged 2-5. (Side-note: if you happen to live anywhere near one of these KFCs, please do not take a child aged 2-5. Not for any health reasons, just because they can’t appreciate the deliciousness just yet and they’re taking up a space that could be used for someone else. Thanks.)
A similar event took place in Japan, but there was a time limit. To be fair, that sounds like a challenge and I’m more than willing to go over there and take it on.
In Japan, the event ran from 5pm-8pm and you had to book in advance before you could get involved. It only cost around a tenner though, so I imagine you could get through at least five times that amount in three hours.
All we can do now is live in hope that the fried chicken restaurant will finally bring this offer over to the UK. Let’s just hope they don’t run out of chicken again. Although if us lot have anything to do with it, I’m sure we could give it a good go.
