As October 31 rolls closer, it’s nearly time to say “This is Halloween” and bask in the glory of The Nightmare Before Christmas. Henry Selick’s critically acclaimed stop-motion movie stole a place in our hearts (and nightmares) back in 1993.
Is it a Halloween movie, is it a Christmas movie? Who really knows? Either way, shoe brand Vans is cashing in on the whole bloody affair with its own range of The Nightmare Before Christmas-themed trainers.
Sneaker Politics has unearthed the four-piece collection (via Hypebeast) and these spooky sneakers are just as amazing as you’d imagine.
News of a Vans x Nightmare Before Christmas collab was announced on Vans’ social media, and only one day later, the first images have appeared online. The Sk8-Hi, Authentic, Old-Skool and Slip-On have all been given a macabre makeover.
The Sk8-Hi comes in a vibrant purple and features Sally and Zero as the focus. The Slip-on is a little more subtle with its branding and features a killer kitty as Jack Skellington’s bowtie. Old-Skool comes in neon green and is covered in fan-favourites Lock, Stock, and Barrel. Finally, the Authentic is a black and white homage to the entire cast.
Sneaker Politics claims the shoes will be kicking their way into our lives next month and will cost $70 each ($75 for the Sk8-Hi).
Vans isn’t the only brand keen to head to Halloweentown as the seasons start to change. Only recently, we announced how Build-A-Bear has released its own Nightmare Before Christmas range.
The online exclusive features two products, Jack Skellington and Sally Bundle – and is almost certain to be a hit among Halloween fans.
Jack’s description reads: “It’s The Pumpkin King of Halloween Town himself! Jack Skellington is a whimsically dark stuffed animal that’s available exclusively online.
“Fans of Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas can make their own merry misadventures with Jack’s signature suit and ‘This Is Halloween’ song chip included in this bundle. Make every day a haunted holiday and let Jack Skellington sing and dance his way into your collection!.”
Meanwhile, Sally’s description says: “Make a new friendship with Sally! Now you can add the beloved ragdoll from Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas to your collection. Sally is stitched together with love and includes her own dress with her signature patchwork print.
“Plus, this online exclusive bundle includes ‘Sally’s Song’ on a sound chip, so you’ll be able to hear this Spiral Hill sweetheart’s signature song at the press of her paw. Snuggle up to Sally to make lots of hauntingly fun memories today!”
Both characters will set you back £21.50 for the bear minimum (see what we did there?) if you want the all singing-all dancing version you’re looking at £40 to add costumes and music box.
These are giving us the chills already. All there’s left to do now is stick in a copy of The Nightmare Before Christmas, kick back in your Vans, and cuddle your Build-A-Bear. What could be better?
