Where’s Jason Voorhees?

It’s out with the old and in with the new as Ryan Murphy unveils the full cast of American Horror Story: 1984. The apprehensive anthology is back for its ninth season and is boasting all the A-list talent we’ve come to expect over the years.

Although AHS alumni Emma Roberts was already confirmed alongside Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy, Murphy has now given us the full cast list ahead of the show’s September premiere. There are plenty of newcomers to this slasher season, but did fans spot a former Glee star hiding in plain sight?

When Murphy gifted us a first proper look at American Horror Story: 1984, a series of promo videos ran through the cast and confirmed how the upcoming run of episodes will homage the horror movies of the ’80s. Going full Friday the 13th, it looks like this year’s bloodbath will revolve around a not-so-sleepy summer camp slasher.

Alongside Roberts and fellow returnees Billie Lourd, Cody Fern, John Carroll Lynch, and Leslie Grossman, newcomers include Shameless‘s Zach Villa, Dear White People‘s DeRon Horton, and legendary Pose star Angelica Ross.

One of the big talking points though is the arrival of Matthew Morrison. After playing Will Schuester for all six seasons of Glee, the 40-year-old is trying something different with American Horror Story. You might not recognise him with some long ’80s hair and pornstache, but trust me, it’s definitely him.

However, there are some big gaps in the show this year. As well as Evan peters stepping away from American Horror Story for the first time ever, Sarah Paulson is also bowing out from her role as leading lady.

Playing everything from psychic Billie Dean Howard to junkie Hypodermic Sally, the spellbinding Cordelia Goode to the feminist icon that is Lana Winters, Paulson has turned it out year after year.

Variety exclusively reports that Paulson won’t have a leading role in American Horror Story: 1984. Although there’s a possibility she could return in a guest capacity, it’s still a major blow for those who’ve come to expect Peters and Paulson to carry the FX series on their shoulders.

According to the site, Paulson is busy filming FX’s political drama Mrs. America and is helping Murphy out on Netflix’s Ratched. It’s also important to remember Paulson’s elevation to the Hollywood A-list. Partially thanks to AHS, the 44-year-old has appeared in blockbusters like Glass and Ocean’s 8.
