It’s been nearly 13 years since Steve Irwin tragically died, but we still remember the enthusiastic Aussie. Known for his love of animals, Irwin famously owned and operated Queensland’s Australia Zoo. In honour of his father, Irwin’s son has recreated one of The Crocodile Hunter’s iconic photographs.
Following in the footsteps of his dearly departed dad, Bob Irwin currently helps out at Australia Zoo (despite being just 15). Just like Steve, Bob has a passion for animals and seems to have taken a particular shine to crocodiles.
Posting on Instagram, Bob shared a ‘snap’ of him feeding Murray the crocodile. If anyone thought it looks a little familiar, that’s because Bob’s photo echoes the very same scene of Steve feeding Murray 15 years ago.
He captioned his post, “Dad and me feeding Murray… same place, same croc – two photos 15 years apart ❤️”. Fans soon sent messages of support to Bob and told him how much he looks like his dad.
One wrote, “Your dad would be so proud!”, while another mused, “It’s very moving to see how much you look like him.”
Bob, his sister Bindi, and their mum Terri have continued the Irwin name when it comes to helping the animal kingdom. Only last year, the trio starred in Crikey! It’s the Irwins.
Speaking to Insider, Bini explained how she wants to help her dad’s good intentions: “I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that I’m able to carry on in his footsteps and make sure that his legacy continues on forever.
“I really believe that dad is with us every single day, and I think that his spirit lives on in all that we do, and that’s something that I hold really close. Dad was extraordinary. He’ll always be my superhero.”
Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray at the age of 44. While swimming in shallow water, it’s thought Irwin approached the stingray to encourage it to swim away. Instead, the animals is said to have flung its barbed tail and struck him hundreds of times.
As you can see from Bob’s photography skills, he’s definitely doing his dad proud. To this day, Irwin is still remembered by his family, friends, and fans around the world.
