This 100-Year-Old Woman Credits Stella And Custard Creams For Her Long Life

My hero, my mate.

When we picture health, things like broccoli, marathons, horrible smoothies and sadness all spring to our minds.

Generally, it’s all pretty un-enjoyable stuff that we do out of necessity rather than for the sheer enjoyment of it.

One thing that definitely doesn’t score high on the health scale is a crisp can of Belgium’s finest, Stella Artois.

Or so we thought.

Eileen Maher, who was born in Darwen, Lancashire, celebrated her 100th birthday recently with a group of her pals at the care home she resides at in Blackpool.

Apparently Eileen didn’t have any plans to celebrate her birthday, however staff at the Princess Alexandra care home had other ideas.

Elaine Wright, care services manager, said: “Eileen said she just wanted her telegram from the Queen – and to be loved.”

She also added the secret behind Eileen looking so good for 100, a can of Stella and a pack of custard creams.

“Eileen’s not big on bubbly so her favourite tipple was on tap – Stella Artois!”

“With a packet of custard creams, it’s her not-so-secret self-indulgence.”

A woman after my own heart. God bless you Eileen.

Sounds like she saw out her big 100th in style too, her first selfie and a surprise appearance from Tom and Pauline, who made the 250-mile round trip to be with her on her special day.

Pauline, a family friend said:

“Eileen was my mother’s best friend.”

“They went on holidays, even the Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), together.”

“I see her as my auntie, she’s a wonderful woman.”

Here’s to you Eileen, this weekend’s Stella will be in your name.
