Swapping walkers for Wakanda, it looks like one star of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead is heading over to the marvellous world of Marvel. As the Hulu and Marvel joint venture of Helstrom unveils its all-star cast, there are a few faces you’ll definitely recognise.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is going full steam ahead as Kevin Feige unveils its Phase 4 slate and a whole host of shows coming to Disney+. However, there are still plenty of other projects in the works that aren’t directly tied into the MCU.
According to Hulu, Grantchester and The Borgias star Tom Austen will play Daimon Helstrom. Daimon is said to be “a professor of ethics who moonlights as an exorcist”.
He’s joined by Fear the Walking Dead‘s Sydney Lemmon as Ana Helstrom. Lemmon notably appeared in the most recent season of Fear as the mysterious Isabelle.
Isabelle’s status is currently unknown on The Walking Dead spin-off, meaning she can easily hop over to Helstrom without having to shuffle off to an early grave on Fear.
Ana’s Helstrom description reads: “Traumatised by her father as a child, Ana is driven to rid the world of those like him, even as she secretly worries her father will return.” It sounds like the brother and sister duo will work together while treading a fine line between good and evil.
If you have no clue about Helstrom‘s dark subject matter, the show’s official description sheds a little
light dark on what’s going on: “Daimon and Ana Helstrom are the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer. The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the terrorising worst of humanity, each with their attitude and skills.”
The cast is rounded off by Homeland’s Elizabeth Marvel as Ana and Daimon’s mother, Ballers‘ Robert Wisdom as an occult guardian called Caretaker, and Mindhunter actor June Carryl as Dr. Louise hastings — an open-minded psychologist who has been monitoring their mother.
Finally, Insatiable‘s Ariana Guerra is a face from the Vatican called Gabriella Rosetti and The Passage‘s Alain Uy is Chris Yan — Ana’s best friend and surrogate brother. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s Paul Zbyszewski will serve as showrunner under Jeph Loeb — the head of Marvel TV.
In a statement, Zbyszewski said: “We feel incredibly fortunate to have landed a cast loaded with this much talent. From the beginning, we knew we’d need a group of actors who were multifaceted, who could play all the chords any great Marvel show promises to play, from dramatic thriller to comedy to action. It’s going to be really fun to watch them work.”
In the past, Jon Bernthal (Shane) and Danai Gurira (Michonne) have branched out from The Walking Dead and joined the world’s highest-grossing franchise as the Punisher and Okoye. As AMC’s world of brain-hungry munchers continues to grow, more and more stars are being linked to Marvel roles. Anyone else championing Norman Reedus for Ghost Rider?
