Wetherspoons, despite the slightly iffy actions of its owner, is a national institution.
From students, to broke post-grads, to the traditional grumpy pub guys, everyone loves a Spoons. Grub, booze or both, whatever the occasion calls for, Spoons has it ready for you.
With over 900 pubs nationwide, there’s pretty much always going to be one there for you.
From Instagram accounts dedicated to the carpets to its iconic plates, fans of the brand are pretty relentless.
The Counting House, Glasgow
The Counting House is a former bank and Spoons retained some of the original look when converting it to a pub. From the grey walls to the bars that surround some booths, this is a pretty amazing-looking pub – it even includes safes, presumably with the last remnants of Jägermeister since it was banned from the venues a few years ago.
The West Kirk, Ayr
A converted Church, this Scottish Spoons was originally built in 1845. It includes high ceilings, stained glass windows, and a pretty beautiful atmosphere, by all accounts.
The Chief Justice Of The Common Pleas, Keswick
If you’ve had a heavy night of boozing, you probably don’t fancy ending up at a police station. Yet Cumbrian residents often end up in one, as this converted former-police station is a distinctive Wetherspoons.
The North Wester, Liverpool Lime Street Station
If you find yourself in Liverpool, with a train delayed, what do you do? Usually, leaving the station to go and grab a drink to kill the time is gonna leave you with next-to-no time to actually drink it – but not here. This Spoons is literally attached to Liverpool’s biggest train station meaning you can grab a pint and be on your way within the hour.
The Moon Under Water, Manchester
Built on the site of one of Manchester’s oldest cinemas, the pub now retains a lot of that iconography – and is absolutely massive, to boot. The three-floor building makes an impressive place to eat your fish and chips, to say the least.
Apart from these, though, people have their own personal faves:
Runcorn spoons just is the best Wetherspoons in the uk, like I’ve been to a fair few and I can honestly say that The Ferry Boat is the best and The Benjamin Huntsman’s the worst— Ky |🌹 (@kyrantsntrippin) October 4, 2019
I’ve just overheard a pensioner on the train talking about “the best Wetherspoons on the planet”— Altrincham HQ – Improving Your Social Media (@altrinchamhq) May 27, 2019
He’s getting off in #manchester
I’m trying to imagine a world where the “best Wetherspoons on the planet” is at Piccadilly Gardens
Me and my BF’s first date ended with us eating in Wetherspoons. Best first date I’ve ever had!— SouthEastNotSoSingleton (@SingletonSeast) January 24, 2020
Proof, if ever it was needed, that the people of Britain truly adore a good Spoons.
