Singles’ day began as exactly what it sounds like, a chance to celebrate the joys of flying solo.
Singles’ Day or Guanggun Jie is a popular holiday amongst young Chinese people. It’s celebrated on November 11 (11/11) as a nod the number one, AKA an individual who is alone.
Fast-forward to today and Singles day has also become increasingly popular with those in relationships too, with around 4,000 couples tying the knot in Beijing on the date.
On top of the whole relationship status stuff, Singles’ Day has also turned into the largest offline and online shopping day of the year, eclipsing Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined. On Singles’ day in 2017, online retailer Alibaba pulled in sales of more than $25bn.
Much like Black Friday, retailers like AliExpress offer flash details and huge discounts on various products, making it the perfect opportunity to save some money on your Christmas shopping.
For anyone unfamiliar with AliExpress, it’s basically China’s answer to Amazon, in the sense you can get pretty much anything on there. Customers can get up to 50% off products on Singles’ Day with multiple Flash Deals running online too.
Obviously there’s a ton of stuff to sieve through online, to save you time we’ve picked out a few of our own discount highlights that also happen to have really strong reviews:
