Shrek has to be the best fairytale movie ever made. Don’t @ me, it’s true.
It became something of a meme in itself as more and more people admitted to the fact that Shrek is indeed love, and Shrek is also very much life. In fact, you can probably think of one person off the top of your head who has an unhealthy obsession with the franchise. I’m right, aren’t I?
Well maybe you should treat them to a trip to the Shrek festival.
It started off as a joke, but it’s now in its fourth year.
The organisers decided to make their very own Shrekfest after seeing an event go viral on Facebook. It wasn’t real, but thousands of people had expressed their interest in the festival. As a result, they ran with it and made their own.

The man behind the event is Grant Duffrin, a video editor living in Milwaukee. Although he did use a little help from his friends.
Speaking to Insider, he said: “We were pumped to go to this thing called ‘Shrekfest’,
“We should have known it was a prank, though. Because I think that if you read the description for the event, it said it was a five-day event. And all the bands they had listed — we should have known it was not a real thing.”
Their first event was completely free for everyone to attend (as they didn’t have a license to sell anything), but they did accept donations.

They gave themselves a budget of $800 and drew in around 50 people. Four years later and the budget is now $5,500 and drew more than 300 people. It even drew a profit.
He continued: “I really don’t mind [losing money], because I think this is an investment,
“I think it’s only going to get bigger and bigger. I would pay to be a part of this.”
So what exactly happens at Shrekfest? He explained: “It’s a party. There’s free beer, there’s a free screening, and it’s free to show up,
“You cannot not have a blast.”
