Prepare those stomachs for a belly-busting road trip as you can now go on a tour of the UK’s best takeaways with an epic holiday for the ages. Whether you think of yourself as a connoisseur of fast food establishments or just fancy expanding your horizons, pack your bags (and your Tupperware).
Speaking of fast food, the countrywide trail is sure to appeal to YouTuber Charna Rowley who gave up her job to eat takeaways full-time. If you want to forage for fish and chips, take on this pilgrimage of pizza, tour of tahini, and journey of jalfrezi, you’re in luck. We’ve got the details.
New research from Parkdean Resorts has helped map out the ‘pub crawl’ of takeaways that stretches the length of the UK. Dubbed the Ultimate Takeaway Trail, the journey maps 60 of the best takeaways. Warning though, this isn’t for the faint-hearted or those who don’t fancy undoing their belts.
The map covers 1,573 miles as it starts from down near Cornwall and stretches up to the Isle of Man. It also takes a hefty 4 days and 59 minutes to complete, so you’d better get your skates on.
If you wanted to eat every dish on the proposed menu, it would cost £676.76 (with travel costs but excluding overnight stays). The most expensive dish is the £13.10 chicken tikka masala from London’s Himalayan Kitchen, while the cheapest is a £3.00 Nutella crepe from Yummies Sweets in Northern Ireland.
This impressive trail was put together by combining data from Just Eat, Google, Tripadvisor, and the Food Standard Agency. According to Parkdean Reports, Chinese had nudged ahead of Indian as the nation’s most popular cuisine. Along the way, you can stop at two of the UK’s best takeaways, with both Hirds Family Fisheries and The Sweetie People being found in Yorkshire.
Here’s the important bit though, how many calories are involved in this perfect pub crawl? If you were to eat all 60 dishes, you’d rack up an eye-watering 50,858 calories. Don’t worry though, there are some lower-calorie options along the way. For example, Wales’ Wok in a Box chicken katsu curry and rice has 448 calories.
For health reasons, the trail isn’t advised, but that won’t stop some people undertaking this mammoth task. Do you think you’re hard enough to tackle this tastebud tango?
